Rochard

Even if there was only one out of ten indie games like Rochard, then an indie scene would still have its meaning. After all, it is a good thing that mainstream has lost its interest in platform genre. Because of that we may now play games by people with their clear minds and their baskets of ideas.

Dec 09 – Tiscali.cz [9.0/10] // Rochard Review (Czech Rep.)

Rochard is a pearl of innovation and good will. Recoil Games squeezed at its best any available resource, starting with the engine. The concept itself might not be new, but it’s impeccably designed and finds in its personal aesthetic a surprising originality.

Dec 06 – Cyberludus [8.5/10] // Rochard Review (Italy)

It really is a wonderful game with a great sense of humor, superb voice-acting, and incredibly satisfying puzzles. Don’t pass it up.

Nov 26 - Cerebral Pop [5/5] // Game Review: Rochard (PC)

All in all, Rochard is one of the best puzzle platformers I’ve come across. It’s fun, addictive, a decent enough challenge and it brought a smile to my face. [...] For less than a tenner, you won’t go far wrong with Rochard, I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Nov 25 – BrashGames [8.0/10] // Rochard – PC Review

Rochard is a very fun game that is absolutely worth its price tag. The puzzles in the game are challenging with a great combination of the different elements and usage of the G-Lifter.

Nov 24 – TheReviewCast [Thumbs Up!] // Rochard Review

…love this game. It brings just enough charm to be memorable, it mixes up the gameplay often enough that you always feel like you’re doing something different with what you already have, the puzzles are sometimes challenging without being frustrating, and the combat with your enemies stays fresh through the end.

Nov 22 – Gkick [8.0/10] // Review: Rochard

Rochard is very well made action-puzzle game and it is really affordable, gameplay is solid and story is awesome. You should get it quickly

Nov 21 - TRGamer [8.5/10 + Editors' Choice] // Rochard (Turkey)

Rochard is an exceptionally competent puzzle platformer that would have impressed even without the combat sections. If you’re looking for a cerebral brainteaser or action-packed platforming fun – or both – Recoil Games will not disappoint.

Nov 19 – DealSpwn [8.0/10] // Manic Asteroid Miner

Rochard is a well designed puzzle platformer that is fun, and has enough challenge for the 7+ hours you’ll have on your first play-through

Nov 18 – Brutal Gamer [9.0/10] // Rochard (PC) Review

Recoil Games not just ported an already good game to the PC, but they improved on it. Rochard felt it was made for the PC with the style and control scheme

If you happen to get a Thanksgiving card from granny with a 10-spot inside, Rochard is definitely worthy

Nov 15 – VE3D // Rochard Impressions

The game is a complete value for money, filled with interesting puzzles and is a lot of fun to play

Give it a shot. There’s some fun to be had

Rochard is graphically impressive at times and above average in others.

Oct 26 – WorthPlaying [8/10] // PSN Review: Rochard

This is a solid platformer with an awesome leading character. Rochard is the type of character that can easily become a franchise player.

Oct 25 – BuzzFocus [81/100] // Get Ready for a Franchise Character

The soundtrack in Rochard is right on and very impressive for a downloadable game.

Oct 17 – Ps3Blog.net [94/100] // Rochard Review

The puzzle solving of this title is amazingly fun.

Oct 17 – Gaming Truth [8/10] // Rochard Review

While it takes elements from popular, proven titles in the “Metroidvania” form, from its unique ‘Everyman as adventurer’ to its masterful sequences of brain-teasing exploration, Rochard mines a great gaming experience.

Oct 17 – Avault [4/5] // Rochard PSN Review

If you love puzzle solving and platforming, you’d be hard pressed to find a better use of $10.

Oct 17 – Snackbar Games [4/5] // Assessing the Gravity of the Situation

John Rochard is a character that won’t be easily forgotten, and neither will his game. It’s filled with well executed puzzles which allow you to mess around with gravity in fun ways.

Oct 17 – InsideGamer.nl [8-] // Rochard Review (Netherlands)

A solid game, rich with ideas and put together with great craft.

Oct 16 – Videogame.it [4/5] // Gravity Gun 2D (Italian)

Rochard is a breath of fresh air for the PlayStation Network and the gaming industry as a whole. It is an original ideal filled with great puzzles and an entertaining sense of humor.

Oct 14 – Gaming Nexus [A-, Editors' Choice] // Rochard Review

This is a strong entry into the downloadable game domain, especially with its $10 price tag

Oct 14 – Gaming Age // Rochard Review

Rochard is a winning bet for Recoil Games and, as a reflection, for Unity Technologies.

Oct 14 – Everyeye.it // Rochard (Italian)

Rochard’s fully crafted moustache and refreshingly hefty stature gives this genre a breath of life that it just might need.

Oct 13 – MMOMGG // Major Crates and Lasers

Rochard is not the usual platformer with one good idea repeated ad libitum, but it puts together an experience rich of possibilities that will never bore you.

Oct 13 – ArsLudica // Rochard (Italian)

The PlayStation Network is no stranger to unique, innovative titles, and I can safely say that Rochard now stands among them.

Oct 12 - PlaystationLifestyle [8/10] // PSN Review

This is a charming, incredibly well designed title with a truckload of replayability (still a rarity for smaller downloadable games). Don’t miss out on this in the glut of “holiday” releases.

Oct 11 – GameShark [A-, Editors' Choice] // Miner Masterpiece

The overall experience with Rochard was exceptional.

Oct 11 – GamingNews Daily [4.5/5] // Rochard Review

It’s a damned fun game from start to finish, I just wish there was more.

Oct 10 – PSNSTores [4/5] // Review: Rochard

It’s a title able to make anybody who likes physics puzzles and stratagems happy.

Oct 10 – The Indie Shelter [8/10] // In space no one can hear you mining (Italian)

Rochard is a small excellent game, short but intense, a small hymn to creativity: the demonstration that you can do something good without a triple A budget.

Oct 09 – Single Player Co-op // Working Class Hero (Italian)

Rochard is the PSN exclusive that Xbox 360 gamers should be petitioning for.  Rochard is packed with puzzles and some great level design.  When you’re playing through the game you’ll be completely sold on the mixture of style, funny characters and the soundtrack.  It’s a near perfect mix.  This game should be played and enjoyed by every gamer out there.

Oct 07 – Unscripted 360 [9/10] // The legend of John Rochard begins

Rochard defies expectations, delivering an immensely fun and rewarding experience in a tightly constructed package. It’s challenging, but not overly daunting. Intense, but never quite frustrating. The puzzles are cleverly designed and the difficulty curve is near perfect. Most importantly, it’s just a heck of a lot of fun.

Oct 07 – Video Game Hangover [4/5] // Weightless wonder

Rochard is a great game, and it’s made for multiple playthroughs.

Oct 05 – BC Gaming [5/5] // PSN Review: Rochard

When you look past all of the bells and whistles of a game, and just look just at its core gameplay, some titles lose their luster, but “Rochard” manages to hold its own. It’s a hard time of the year for PSN games since they need to share the spotlight with so many other bigger name game, but try not to overlook “Rochard.” It will offer you hours worth of challenging puzzles, and space police to shoot in the face. Really, it’s the best of both worlds.

Oct 05 – MTV // A New Kind of Gravity Gun

Rochard kind of looks like a Metroidvania or Bionic Commando-style game at first, but it’s really neither. Instead, its focus is primarily on puzzle solving, and in that it succeeds, with clever challenges that get progressively more difficult.

Oct 05 – Ars Technica [Verdict: Buy] // Review: Rochard

This game is a unique experience, something that builds on the past of platforming adventure while pulling in aspects from some of the best shooters, and injecting it all with fun and humor. It’s a perfect game, and an absolute must-own for any PlayStation 3 owner.

Oct 04 – Newsorama [10/10] // Beautiful, innovative, perfect

It’s a refreshing, perfectly sized game that squeezes the fun puzzle process, of learning and exploiting the rules, into tidy little rooms

Oct 04 – Joystiq [4/5] // Puzzles suitable for miners

Rochard is a joy to play. It’s pretty, it’s clever and it doesn’t over stay its welcome. The core game mechanic of changing gravity and manipulating objects with your trusty G-Lifter is endlessly entertaining.

Oct 04 – Trifty Nerd [5/5] // Heavy on the fun

Rochard is not a typical downloadable PSN title. It is of a higher pedigree in the world of digital distribution

Oct 04 – PlayTribune [8.5/10] // Rochard Review

The game’s production values are well above most ten-dollar games.

Oct 04 – Cheap Arse Gamer [Very Good] // Review: Rochard

Coming out literally from nowhere, Rochard reveal itself as an extremely good title, especially noteworthy for its technical and level design profile.

Oct 03 – Tiscali Giochi [8/10] // The hard life of an astro-miner (Italian)

You really can’t go wrong with this game.

Oct 03 – New Gamer Nation [8/10] // Review: Rochard

Seriously though, Rochard is a great game that is obviously well loved by the development team.  A high level of care and polish went into making Rochard a real PSN gem.

Oct 03 – VGBlogger.com // Review: Rochard

Rochard was built for fun and perfect for when you just want to pick up a game and play.

Oct 03 – Gaming Examiner [8.5/10] // Between PSN and a Hard Place

Rochard is nearly what I would consider a master-class in how to make platformers interesting again

Oct 02 – CinemaBlend [4/5] // No-Frills Puzzle Action

Honestly, this just might be one of the best downloadable games of the year.

Sept 30 – GameZone // Rochard Review

Flowing effortlessly between challenging your brain and reflexes, Rochard is elegant, clever, and beautiful. Rochard the man may be ordinary, but the adventure he stars in is anything but.

Sept 30 – GamePro [4.5/5] // Review: Rochard

The puzzle design really is inspired and the combination of so many various gameplay pieces makes for an enjoyable, dynamic experience.

Sept 30 – PSXExtreme [8.1/10] // Rochard Review

You’ll find Rochard to be addictive as well as amusing, especially if you can’t look past John’s disproportionate body. If not for the level of entertainment and presentation quality, spend the $9.99 to see how much that belly is sticking out!

Sept 30 – VideoGamerRob [4/5] // PSN Review: Rochard

Rochard delivers great side-scrolling gameplay, inventive puzzles, a phenomenal soundtrack, and a fun visual style. And all this comes with a low price tag. If you’re looking for some great old school platforming with a healthy side of puzzles, Rochard is just a PSN purchase away.

Sept 29 – CCC [4.2/5] // The Gravity of the Situation

Pictures don’t do Rochard justice; it’s gorgeous and overflowing with color from beginning to end. If you’ve got free time and ten bucks to spare, Rochard is worth its weight in unobtanium (or whatever obscure space rock they were looking for before Rochard started shooting people in the head).

Sept 29 – GamesRadar [7/10] // Stuck Between a Rock and a Deep Space

Rochard is a great addition to the world of downloadable games, that offers entertaining moments for those who enjoy either 2-d platforming, action, puzzles, or – best of all – all of the above.

Sept 29 – Iltalehti [9/10] // Laadukas PlayStation 3 -peli Suomesta (Finnish)

Sept 29 – GameTrailers [7.1/10] // Rochard Review

The cadence at which Rochard gets harder and your adventure more arduous is staggered almost perfectly. I’m not the most puzzle-savvy gamer in the world, and there are definitely times I struggled, but I figured everything out in short order. It can be difficult, but never to the point of outright frustration, and I commend Recoil Games for its astute design choices. I felt a sense of accomplishment as I got through more and more difficult puzzles and combat situations, and it’s a testament to the thoughtfulness of the entire package.

Sept 24 – IGN [8.5/10 + Editor's Choice] // An Excellent Adventure in Puzzle-Platforming
